CLOUD BERRY | SERIES STATEMENT
Cloud Berries, with their cascading rolling contours, highlight Kadri’s most famous biomorphic visual forms. These forms are seen in Kadri’s cups, vases, wave forms, teapots, and her most recent Fire Sculpture. Visually pleasing in their softness and tactilely satisfying in their surface finishing, Kadri hand-builds each unique form from slab, pulling each contour out one after the other.
Layers of pigmented stain are applied to the bisqued clay body. Kadri then may sand the piece to reveal layers of color, or add decorative moments of colored slip to build texture. The result is a dance of colors bursting to the surface.
Together, the surface treatments and 3D contours speak not only to the glimmer of sun on water–another recurring theme in Kadri’s work–but also to the changing environment back home in Massachusetts. Residing along the Westfield River, Pärnamets works amongst an everpresent soundtrack of the river’s current and the hush of waving willow trees. In the studio and on her daily walks through the neighborhood, she is always observing, listening, and finding inspiration in the acute timbres and textures of the changing New England seasons.
Cloud Berries are often displayed in groupings like a collection of thoughts, however they can be acquired individually as well.
